Mayuko Akimoto

A native of Japan, Mayuko Akimoto attended St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire and studied flute with Judy Grant in the Boston Flute Academy Young Artist Program.  She also continued her studies with Jean Benson at St. Paul’s School and Hideaki Sakai in Japan.  In 2008, Ms. Akimoto toured Beijing, China, as a member of the Junior Philharmonic Orchestra based in Tokyo, Japan.  In 2009, she was accepted into the Young Artists’ Orchestra at Boston University Tanglewood Institute and played principal flute in Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra.

Ms. Akimoto has won prizes in several competitions, including the Yamano Junior Flute Competition, Student Music Competition of Japan, Keiser Music Competition at St. Paul’s School, and The 11th Japan Junior Wind and Percussion Competition.  She was principal flute of the St. Paul’s School concert band and performed as a soloist in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 with the school orchestra.

Ms. Akimoto has performed in many masterclasses, including for Emmanuel Pahud, Gary Schocker, Sandra Church, Amy Porter, Andrea Liberknecht, Wally Hase, and Felix Renggli.  After graduating high school, she has gone on to study flute at Hoschule fur Musik Freiburg in Freiburg, Germany.
